#### Pinus Nigra Oil. The tree **Pinus**** ****Nigra**** **grows abundantly in certain areas of Austria and Yugoslavia. In Austria, it serves mainly for the production of turpentine, while in Yugoslavia, the essential oil from the needles (leaves) is distilled by steam. The oil is apparently not produced elsewhere; it does not present any unusual odor characteristics, nor does it possess other advantages as a perfume material over the commercially available pine needle oils. Accordingly, the oil is of little or no interest to perfumers outside its country of origin. **Pinus Nigra Oil **is a colorless to pale yellow, mobile liquid of pleasant, balsamic-pinelike, refreshing odor. The turpentine-notes (pinene-notes) are, however, rather dominating, and the odor has no tenacity or even faint, pleasant dryout note. The oil could find use in low-cost pine fragrances for household products, bath salts or bath oils, etc. but being a low-ester oil, it has only a thin body and little masking power. The annual production of **Pinus**** ****Nigra**** ****Oil**** **is probably less than 5 metric tons, but could be increased significantly to meet stronger demand.
